BAC Launches a New One-Make Race Series: Mono Cup
BAC is making its first steps into motorsport, with a one-make race series for its single-seat Mono supercar claimed to be the “world’s fastest one-make championship”.
The series, Mono Cup, will get underway later this year, with a calendar running across late 2024 and into 2025 and entirely based in the Middle East.
Liverpool-based BAC announced the event at the SEVEN Concours event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the country’s F1 circuit will be the home track for the event. While the calendar hasn’t yet been announced, Mono Cup will take in “iconic” circuits in Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates as well as the Jeddah Corniche circuit.
It’s been two years in the making, but BAC has created the Mono Cup in collaboration with the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) and Veloce Life which operates BAC Saudi Arabia.
The championship is open to competitors around the world who hold an International C racing licence, and on an arrive-and-drive basis. BAC’s motorsport division will manage all car setup and logistics matters, though entry fees haven’t yet been revealed.
They’re not likely to be inexpensive though, as the Mono Cup is touting “world-class support and hospitality services” and “a level and lifestyle refinement unheard of in one-make championships”.
As for the car itself, that won’t exactly be a regular Mono. BAC hasn’t gone into specifics at this point, but states that the Mono Cup car has been re-engineered and redesigned from the road car to suit the demands of motorsport — adding that it will forge its own niche in motorsport midway between GT racing and open-wheel formula cars.
The announcement comes 15 years to the week since BAC’s creation in the UK, with the company now exporting its unique vehicle to 47 territories around the world.
