MG Cyberster Drops Into Leeds on its Global Preview Tour

A car dealership in Leeds has hosted a special preview event for the MG Cyberster electric sports car, as the first stop on a tour which will take the car from London to Shanghai.

MG first revealed the Cyberster as a concept car in 2021, but it wasn’t until April this year that the pre-production model was unveiled — showing off the two-door convertible body in full, along with its scissor doors.

It’s the first convertible from the brand in over a decade, since the TF ended production in 2011, and it’s a deceptively large vehicle. Coming in at 4.7 metres long, it’s actually slightly longer than the Mercedes SL.

The cabin features what MG calls an “interactive gaming cockpit”, with 5G connectivity and an infotainment system based on the Unreal Engine 4 gaming graphics software. That seems to be an extension of the brand’s MAZE gaming concept car, also shown back in 2021.

When it does go on sale, which is scheduled to be during the summer of 2024, you’ll be able to select it with two different power options. There’s a single-motor, rear-wheel drive version, with 308hp and a 64kWh battery pack, or a dual-motor, AWD version with 536hp and a 77kWh battery pack.

Although the Xingyun (Nebula)/Modular Scalable Platform does support 800V architectures, it remains to be seen if the Cyberster is 400V- or 800V-based, with the latter allowing much more rapid charging.

Luscombe MG Leeds was selected as the first stop on the Cyberster’s global tour, with sales director Sam Luscombe commenting: “We are extremely privileged to be the sole Yorkshire dealer chosen to host this eagerly awaited MG”.

With the event taking place in our region it meant a first chance for members of the Northern Group, as well as other journalists and members of the public, to see the car up close since its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer.
