Omoda’s UK Tour Brings Product Line-up to Manchester
One of the newest brands to the UK market, Omoda, has brought its product line-up to our region as part of a round-Britain tour, with NGMW members invited along to sample the vehicles.
You’ll be forgiven for not knowing much about the Omoda brand, which only launched in May 2024. Along with sibling brand Jaecoo, it’s an export-only marque that belongs to the Chery group — which also manufactures Jaguar Land Rover vehicles as part of a joint-venture in its native China.
Both Omoda and Jaecoo (collectively “O&J”) are built only for other markets, initially Russia, but subsequently South Africa, Mexico, and now Europe. Some of the vehicles under these marques are also sold in China as Chery-branded model lines.
That includes the two standard-bearers for the brand in the UK, the Omoda 5 and its battery-electric E5 sibling, which Omoda brought to the north-west for NGMW members to try out.
Positioned as C-segment crossovers, in a pretty tough market sector to crack given all the other available options, the 5 and E5 are quite keenly priced and start at just under £26,000.
The 5 sports a 183hp, 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto and is well-equipped even in standard Comfort trim. Noble, the higher-grade, adds only a power tailgate and a 360-degree camera to an extensive range of kit.
Meanwhile the E5 starts at £33,055 and boasts a 204hp motor, with a 61kWh battery pack that supports up to 80kW DC charge rates and a range of up to 267 miles. There’s more difference in the two grades here, with Noble owners benefitting from electric adjusting, heated passenger seats, dual-zone air-conditioning, and a 60-colour interior ambient lighting system.
NGMW members were among those testing both cars out in an event based at The Colony in Wilmslow, near Manchester Airport, and you’ll be able to read their thoughts on the vehicles soon.
