Northern Group Car of the Year 2022: Dacia Jogger Takes Family Car Category Win

Dacia’s new Jogger has won the Family Car category in the Northern Group of Motoring Writers’ Car of the Year voting, advancing it to the six-car shortlist for the overall Car of the Year award.

It’s the first time the marque has appeared in our final reckoning, but the new-for-2022 Jogger — which replaces the Logan MCV and Logan MCV Stepway — has certainly earned its place.

The seven-seater is based on the new Renault-Nissan group “Common Module Family” CMF-B platform, similar to the one underpinning the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur.

Keeping with Dacia’s USP of affordable motoring, the Jogger is the least expensive seven-seat family car on the market. It’s not barebones though, with LED lights, heated seats, and DAB/Android Auto/Apple CarPlay infortainment on higher-end models.

Graham King, the Northern Group’s most recent new recruit, was part of the judging panel at our driving day, and gave his thoughts on the Jogger:

The Dacia Jogger appears ruthlessly efficient. There’s seven-adult-space, a massive boot, it has just enough power, it uses little fuel, there’s all the equipment you really need and it costs the lowest possible price. But it’s more than simply efficient: it’s a fun, willing companion that’ll make family motoring more enjoyable.

That all pushed it to class victory, beating the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Peugeot 308 in the process. Dacia supplied a Jogger, in top-end Extreme SE specification, for the driving day near Skipton which saw a panel of 13 NGMW members driving the finalists.

All attending members cast their votes for the class winners, in a secret ballot. The results will be revealed at the SMMT Test Day North, where the coveted “Arthur” trophy will be handed to the winning manufacturer’s press team.
