Off the Beaten Track at the Northern Group’s Autumn Meeting

Our latest Group meeting took place at the Coniston Hotel, in Coniston Cold near Skipton.

In addition to the regular business, the meeting included an off-road experience on the purpose-built Coniston Off-Road Centre. Members who arrived sufficiently early got to play in the mud — helped along by some very seasonable showers.

The centre features a Land Rover-designed area which tests all aspects of an off-road vehicle — and likely the drivers too. Following a short familiarisation run in the more simple “Zone 1”, the Northern Group members headed out into the more challenging “Zone 2”.

Vehicles available range from the very latest Discovery model back to some older Defenders. Pickup fans could tackle the routes with an Isuzu D-Max or a Mitsubishi L200, with the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport also available.

With cars and writers thoroughly hosed-down, we retired to the safety and warmth of indoors for the official business and a well-earned pint.
