Video: Genesis Magma Range Launch at the Nurburgring

Genesis is adding a dark streak to its range, with a new performance branding for the marque revealed in a special event at the Nurburgring that it calls “Magma”.

It’s a reference to the volcanoes that dot the landscape of the company’s home country of South Korea, which also inspires the range-exclusive “Magma Orange” paint colour, and we’ve seen some teasing of the Magma range over the past few months.

The colour came first, adorning the 2023 GV80 Coupe Concept and then the fictional X Gran Berlinetta Vision GT — which was nonetheless built as a full-size concept and later adapted into a special version for brand partner Jacky Ickx. In early 2024 we saw the G80 Magma Special and then the GV60 Magma Concept.

These four cars were effectively the canary for a reveal of a full-spectrum Magma sub-brand, which will be characterised by improved performance and driving dynamics on models across the Genesis range. The vehicles were brought together for the first time in Europe at this special event, along with Ickx and chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke.

Along with launching the Magma programme, Genesis also revealed its Track Taxi Nordschleife. This will offer laps of the fearsome course with a professional driver and — uniquely — up to three passengers, in a lightly tweaked Genesis G70 3.3T with prices ranging from €120-180 and all proceeds going to charity.

Our man Andrew Evans was present at the event, giving us this close-up look at what might be coming out of Genesis showrooms soon
