Bentley Mulliner Batur Revealed at Monterey Car Week
Bentley has revealed its second limited-run coachbuilt car, following the 2020 Bacalar, unveiling the Batur to VIP guests at Monterey Car Week in California.
Like the Bacalar, the Batur is a heavily reworked Continental GT — although this time Bentley’s customisation specialist Mulliner has used the coupe as a base rather than the convertible model — with almost no carry over of body components.
The purpose-built body is intended to reflect the near-future design direction for Bentley, with the brand’s director of design, Andreas Mindt, responsible for the overall look of the Batur.
As you might expect for a limited-production Bentley, potential owners have the choice of any paint colour whether Bentley (or Mulliner) offers it or not. The show car is finished in a custom Bonneville Pearlescent Silver, with the carbon fiber splitter, skirts, and diffuser in Black Crystal, but customers can pick from any colour combinations for the body, brightwork, wheels, and grille — and even opt for custom, hand-painted graphics.
There’s just the two seats in the cabin, which is again as customisable and the buyer’s imagination. The launch car features contrasting black, red, and orange, with the “Hyperactive” orange leather coming from Scottish-sourced hide to reduce the carbon footprint, and 3D-printed 18-carat gold for some controls.
In fact sustainability is a key driver, with sustainable leather sourced from Italy, Dinamica artificial suede, recycled yarn in the carpets, and a natural fibre composite in place of carbon fibre. However customers can select any materials and finishes they wish.
As standard the Batur features a laser etched sound wave on the passenger side fascia, representing the sound of the W12 engine, although customers may wish to specify their own artwork instead.
There’ll only be 18 examples of the Bentley Mulliner Batur, starting at £1.65m apiece before taxes and options. Predictably, despite only just being revealed, all 18 have already been sold ahead of delivery in mid-2023.
