Alan Domville was the first weekly newspaper motoring journalist to be admitted to membership soon after the inaugural meeting of the Group in 1973. He was Group chair from 2003 to 2005 and has been General Secretary since then. Currently he is motoring editor and sports editor of the Cheshire Times and has attended more than 1,300 new car launches.

He entered journalism with the Warrington Examiner in 1957 and a year later joined the Warrington Guardian Series where he was the bureau chief for 36 of his 49 years with the company. He is a member of the Guild of Motoring Writers, a life member of the National Union of Journalists and a three-term president of Warrington Advanced Motorists.
