BAC Mono Has a Starring Role in the Next Gran Turismo Game

Sony has unveiled its highly anticipated PlayStation racing game Gran Turismo 7, and there’s a starring role in the trailer for one of the north’s most exciting car brands: BAC.

The low-volume manufacturer, based near Liverpool John Lennon Airport on Merseyside, is one of a handful of brands represented in the very first trailer for the game — the latest entry in the 23-year old video game series, with over 80 million sales to date.

BAC’s Mono single-seater appears early on in the trailer, with a gaggle of cars racing around the fictional “Trial Mountain” circuit. From the bodywork we can see that it’s the updated version of the standard car, with the new Mountune Racing-tuned 2.5-litre Ford Duratec engine which produces 305hp.

It’ll be a debut in the Gran Turismo game series for the BAC brand, although the Mono has appeared in other racing games before — notably in the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series from Microsoft, and the Project CARS games from British developer Slightly Mad Studios.

BAC isn’t the first northern car brand to appear in the game’s history, with TVR part of the series since it first launched in December 1997 and Ginetta present in titles between 2004 and 2013. The Sunderland-built Nissan Micra (K12) and first-generation Leaf have also appeared in previous titles.

We don’t current have a launch date for the game, though it’s expected to be a launch-day title for Sony’s new PlayStation 5 console. That too has no confirmed launch date, although it’s widely expected towards the end of 2020 and just in time for the Black Friday and Christmas shopping spree.
