David was instrumental in the formation of the Northern Group in the early 70s and has been prominent in group activities ever since, serving in most group roles – including secretary, chairman, handbook and newsletter editor.

A time-served print journalist, he worked through the ranks to become assistant editor of the Evening Gazette, Middlesbrough with experience as a general news reporter, feature writer and designer. He was the newspaper’s motoring correspondent for more than 50 years and winner of two Pirelli Northern Motoring Writer of the Year awards.

He is one of the UK’s most experienced motoring journalists and this experience led to him being appointed as Group Motoring Editor for the UK’s biggest regional newspaper group, Trinity Mirror Regionals, in 2002. In this role, he was responsible for creating, launching and managing the company’s Driving Force syndication service which provided quality motoring editorial to hundreds of daily, Sunday, evening and weekly newspapers throughout the UK.

Although now retired from full-time work, he remains a director of Driving Force Media Ltd and contributing motoring editor.
