My adventure into the land of print media began in the year 2000 when I wrote a few feature articles for Land Rover Monthly magazine, and when I realised I was actually quite good at this writing malarkey I began freelancing for another four-wheel drive magazine, 4×4 Mart.

After 4×4 Mart I was asked to contribute to the Difflock.com online magazine, and when the owner was offered the editor’s role at Land Rover World magazine (Kelsey publishing) I followed him with the promise of fame and fortune. Well, a regular wage at least.

From 2010 up until its sad demise in its 20th year of publication in 2014 I covered everything from vehicle reviews and product reviews to off-road jaunts and show reports.

For the next few years I wrote the odd article for Performance Ford magazine and a number of product reviews for both Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome magazines. I also scribed for various club magazines such as the AWDC (All Wheel Drive Club), Range Rover Register and GLASS (Green Lane Association).

In January 2016 my wife and I started a 4×4 and outdoor website called TheMudLife.co.uk, and in December 2019 we launched our first digital magazine. 

The Mud Life 4×4 is my attempt to emulate the great British 4×4 magazine and remains the UK’s only free, online 4×4 and outdoor review magazine that also has quite a decent global readership.
